Charging for copier scans?

I went up against a big Canon dealer here on Long Island, the customer gave me some paperwork to review and asked me if I can compete as my company came highly recommended. I saw that this competitor was very close on the numbers for the copier lease itself but then noticed that they charge for scans! It appears that a number of companies are doing this now. You see, they are cutting the cost per copy to compete against other businesses and then they stick the customer with scan charges!

I remember the talk about this 17 years ago but nothing really came out of it because it was very obvious that something like this is just another way of “sticking it” to the customer.

But yes, this past month I met with two different customers who are using a very large, well known Canon dealer and another big Sharp dealer here on Long Island that were victims of this ridiculous fee of charging for scans.

You see, the big copier dealers are desperately trying to survive as the average customers yearly volume is dropping because of more paperless technology and E fax and going green that they are seeking another “niche” to stick it to the customers.

Don’t worry, at PJD Business Machines (Long Islands Copier Sales Company) we never did nor will we ever charge for scans.

Use cheap aftermarket toner and this is the result

Use Cartridge World or other crap toners in your copiers and expect a charge call from your local copier/printer dealer.

He bought the cartridge from Cartridge World on 10/23/13, it was almost full and he now needs to go out and get an OEM because I scolded him. $109.00 for Cartridge world garbage plus $159.00 for genuine Canon = $268.00 plus our $105.00= $373.00 plus tax

Price shopping customers be aware…

We receive dozens a calls a week, internet surfers looking for price quotes, we tell them our prices right up front, we charge $105.00 to do a service all. Even if the call goes over an hour, we still charge the $105.00 for the call plus parts if needed.

What some companies may do to get into the door… They tell you over the phone that they charge $75.00, it sounds great until you see the final bill. In most cases the bill will be in the mid to higher 100’s. Like the salesman’s bait & hook we wrote about in another blog, this one is about service. When you call in for service, no matter what it is, fax machine, laser printer, copier, whatever, find out about the service fee and what it includes, ask the company what happens when the technician goes over the 1 hour mark, ask the company if they charge EXTRA if the machine needs a part and the tech has to come back to install it. Asked the company over the phone if they have some idea in what the problem can be so you have an idea what you are in for.

We are totally honest, we are upfront with our customers, if the machine is NOT worth the repair, we will state it over the phone and not waste ours or yours time & money.

We will not tell you that your machine needs unnecessary parts to build up the bill. There are a lot of companies out there folks, get references, be on top of the game and this will ensure a smooth transaction or…
